Overview

Mateo García is a Ph.D. student in Comparative Politics from Uruguay. He holds a B.A. In Political Science from Universidad Católica del Uruguay, where he also worked as a data analyst and lecturer. Prior to joining Cornell, Mateo collaborated on research projects related to criminal recidivism, wage councils, and electoral and party systems, and taught a course on programming for data analysis. His research interests lie in state capacity, crime, and governance in Latin America, with a focus on how state strength and legitimacy shape public policy outcomes in contexts of violence and informality.
